A Ton of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season

The winter break offer a wealth of pastimes much better than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and employing meditation skills to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items surfaced during the break, and should you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
