This event was expected to be one of the stronger editions of this unique 7-furlong contest for fillies and mares. Yet, veterinary inspections led to several scratches earlier today, including leading runners Sweet Azteca as well as Tamara.

As a result, the lineup looks much smaller, though conditioner Bob Baffert stands a strong chance to claim a twentieth Breeders’ Cup victory. His runners feature Richi along with Splendora, whereas Hope Road, victor in the G1 Ballerina Stakes, is considered the primary threat.

One of the leading European hopes, Arizona Blaze, was withdrawn on Saturday, but focus stays on Khaadem with rider Frankie Dettori, as they attempt to follow up a recent top-level victory in the Woodford Stakes.

Other notable runners include Bucanero Fuerte as well as She’s Quality, both holding solid form. The US-trained rivals such as Motorious, Ag Bullet, plus Reef Runner also pose serious challenges, with Ag Bullet showing Grade One-winning form at Saratoga.
