Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also indicates he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had led observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early chances in a close third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
