Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
